SODO Sundays – July 8th, 2018

Hello, tokusatsu community! It’s Joshua Perry here to talk about SODO figures on my fortnightly series, SODO Sundays. This time we have a bit of news from Kamen Rider Build.

Kamen Rider Build

With only one set of Build SODO figures left, Bandai is releasing a special villain set for Build to be released next month. Instead of slowly revealing the wave, the complete line up of this special set has been revealed!

First up is the BiKaiser from Heisei Generations FINAL. This original version of the Hell Bros from the show uses those figures repainted. Just like before they can combine to form the BiKaiser or be the two separate Kaisers.

Also in this set is the base form for all of the Kaisers: the Nebula HellBros.

That’s not all in this set. A few versions of the Guardians that were not included in the Guardians set from a few months ago are also in this set including the Hard Guardians and new versions of the Seito and Hokuto ones.

As always you can watch SODO Sundays Episode 22 here:

That’s it for this edition of SODO Sundays! Stay tuned for the next edition on both Toku Toy Store News and YouTube channel.

Kamen Rider Zi-O: New Rumors Surface

It’s that time of the year again, a new Kamen Rider series just around the corner and that means new rumors surrounding the next series are popping up in anticipation of the 1st quarter toy scans.

This year it’s Kamen Rider Zi-O, which is set to be the 20th and final season in the Heisei Era of Kamen Rider. As it’s the beginning of July the 1st quarter toy scans should be here in a few weeks so that means early rumors have begun to pop up. Time seems to be a very important theme of Zi-O.

The first silhouettes from the latest TV-Kun had shown Zi-O alongside the previous 19 Heisei Riders, each year for the series was written in the style of a digital clock. Zi-O also seems to have some sort of wrist watch like device, which is rumored to be his transformation device rather then using a belt.

As for his forms Zi-O there are slightly conflicting rumors. One set states Zi-O will have 24 Clock devices that allow him to use the powers of past Riders and travel to their timeline. That list is as follows:

1AM- Kuuga      1PM- W                   2AM- Agito      2PM- OOO

3AM- Ryuki         3PM- Fourze              4AM- Faiz              4PM- Wizard

5AM- Blade       5PM- Gaim            6AM- Hibiki       6PM- Drive

7AM- Kabuto        7PM- Ghost           8AM- Den-O           8PM- Ex-Aid

9AM- Kiva        9PM-Build                  10AM- Decade   10PM- Zi-O

11AM- Ichigo    11PM- Black             12AM- V3                12PM- Black RX

It’s assumed the disk silhouette from the early Zi-O scans would be the 24 Clock Devices and the Rider silhouette would be a base form for him to go to 10PM to get the Zi-O form seen in the new silhouette.

A second set of rumors takes the previous Riders hour forms and states that Zi-O will have legend forms starting with Kuuga, Ex-Aid, and Build but his main forms will be based on 3 hour intervals, stating his starting forms to be “3 Time” “6 Time” “9 Time” and “12 Time”. This set of rumors is the one that states Zi-O will transform with the “Time Timer” a watch like henshin device and his gimmick will the “Time Timings”. Finally these rumors state he will have 3 weapons, the “Clock Rod”, “Turn Scene Gun”, and “Cho Seen Arrow”

As of this time it seems likely Zi-O will have some sort of time theme and relate to Legend Heisei Riders to some capacity.

Only time will tell what or if any of these rumors are true. For all news on Kamen Rider Zi-O stay tuned to Toku Toy Store.

Saban KYU RANGERS Trademark From 2017 Found

Could recently discovered trademark registries reveal how Hasbro changed Power Ranger plans for Saban Brands?

Even though Hasbro has now gained ownership of the Power Rangers franchise, it seems at one point something involving Uchu Sentai Kyuranger was being planed by Saban Brands. It has been found that a trademark for KYU RANGERS was filed by Saban Brands back in June 2017.

It also appears that on June 21st, 2018 it was renewed. Does this mean that Kyuranger was at once considered for the 2019 series of Power Rangers? Or is something new with Kyuranger on the way? We’ll just have to wait and see.

What do you think this trademark is for? Would you like to see Kyuranger become a series of Power Rangers? Leave a comment down below!

SODO Sundays – June 10th, 2018

Hello, tokusatsu community! It’s Joshua Perry here to talk about SODO figures on my fortnightly series, SODO Sundays. This time we have a bit of news from Kamen Rider Build as well as Lupinranger VS Patoranger.

Kamen Rider Build

Over the last few weeks the lineup of Set 10 had been revealed. Recently the final figure for that wave was shown to be Kamen Rider Evol. Set 10 will include his base Cobra form as well as his Rabbit and Dragon forms.

But that is not it for Evol. The first figure of set 11 has been revealed to be his final form Black Hole.

But the villain Riders don’t stop there. The newest Rider to show up in the show has also been revealed for Set 11. That is Kamen Rider Mad Rogue.

Lupinranger vs Patoranger

Moving on from SODO there is a new set of YUDO figures being released for Lupin vs Pato. Since the first set came out more forms and Rangers have popped up so this set gets everything up to date. First is the PatorenUgo figure. This is the combined form of the three Patorangers.

But that’s not it for new Rangers. The newest member of both teams, X, has also arrived in the YUDO line. Both his Lupin X and PatorenX suits are getting released.

With all these new Ranger figures they need someone to fight besides the other team. For that this new YUDO wave is including the Pordermen grunts.

All of these figures do not come with their accessories as there is a weapons pack being released that has a stand and all of the weapons for every figure in the wave.

SODO Sundays – May 27th, 2018

Hello, tokusatsu community! It’s Joshua Perry here to talk about SODO figures on my fortnightly series, SODO Sundays. This time we have a bit of news from Kamen Rider Build and the original 1971 Kamen Rider.

Kamen Rider Build

The first few figures of Build Set 10 have been revealed! This set seems to be playing a bit of catch-up from the many forms over the last few months. Starting with some of the Hazard forms seen in the show recently. Hazard HawkGatling and Hazard KaizokuRessha are now joining the SODO line! These figures use the same Hazard body from Set 6 but have the new face plates and even include the HawkGatling wings seen in the show.

That’s not it for Build Set 10 as two more Best Matches are now in SODO form. Seito’s KujiraJet and KirinCyclone have arrived!

Kamen Rider (1971)

A new Premium Bandai SHODO set has been revealed for the original Kamen Rider series. This special set seems to come with different versions of Kamen Rider Ichigo. Kamen Rider Nigo, and the Cyclone bike. Compared to previous SODO and SHODO figures this set seems to have some better details and articulation.

At the end of the Bandai blog post it was teased that the next figure would be Kamen Rider Evol. Tune in next SODO Sundays to find out if that’s true.

SODO Sundays – May 13th, 2018

Hello, tokusatsu community! In a break from the usual schedule, it’s Joshua Perry here to talk about SODO figures on my fortnightly series, SODO Sundays. This time we have a bit of news from the Kamen Rider Build.

Kamen Rider Build

Last year, when the Ex-Aid SODO line was doing very well, a special set of SODO figures called Dai-SODO was released that featured new versions of Kamen Rider Ex-Aid, Brave, and Snipe including more paint and extra articulation. It seems Dai-SODO is returning again this year with Kamen Rider Build.

Build’s Dai-SODO set will release this summer featuring new accessories and paint applications from the original releases. The figures included are Build in his RabbitTank form and Cross-Z in his default Dragon form. Both figures include a now painted Build Driver Strap and have their signature weapons that look more show accurate then before.

Both Riders also come with a set of hand accessories that allow for the recreation of their signature transformation poses.

The biggest new inclusion to this set is the Snap Ride Builder piece that can recreate the transformation sequence by attaching the Rider halves to it like a model kit as seen in the show.

This special set will release exclusively at Japanese Aeon stores in June before moving to Premium Bandai at a later date.

As always you can watch SODO Sundays Episode 18 here:

That’s it for this edition of SODO Sundays! The next edition will release on May 20th on both Toku Toy Store News and YouTube channel.

Ranger Keys: 5 Reasons Why They Are Special

Hello Tokusatsu community. Josh Perry here to talk about one of my favourite things from Toku and that’s Ranger Keys. Coming from Gokaiger back in 2011 Ranger Keys have been a major staple of the Super Sentai Bandai toyline ever since. While a new set has not been revealed since 2016, time will tell if this line has finally reached it’s end or if Bandai has something up their sleeve. Looking back at this line, let’s look at some of the things that make these little plastic Keys so special.

1.) Collectible Factor

Ranger Keys are highly collectible. Bandai struck gold when they came up with the concept of Ranger Keys. Having a series of toys that could double as action figures, display pieces, and unlock sounds (literally) is amazing.

Ranger Key toyline

Bandai did not make it easy to collect the Keys though. With there being many different types from DX, Candy Toy, Gashapon, Promotional, and Premium Bandai, and over 400 Keys in total they really are a pain to collect. That can be part of the enjoyment, it can feel like receiving treasure when finding some of the rare Keys from the toyline. To add to that feeling there is a Gokai Treasure Chest you can use to store the Keys show accurately.

Gokai Treasure Chest

2.) Only Toy of Some Characters

There are so many Rangers in the Super Sentai universe. With there being so many Rangers not all of them get as many toys, or any at all, as other Rangers. This is a fate suffered by many of the movie exclusive and V-Cinema exclusive Rangers.

Ranger Keys have gave these extra and 1 time appearance Rangers the representation they never had before. The line has gone from DekaGold, who appeared for only a few seconds, to X-1 Mask, the prototype Maskman featured in one episode, and many more.

Lost Edition.PNG

More recently with the release of the Lost Edition Key Set in 2015 Bandai used Ranger Keys to show the official design of Gosei Green who never had a helmet designed revealed before his Key.

Gosei Green.jpg

3) Amazing Displays

Ranger Keys are always nice on their own but one of the best things about them is how they look when they are all lined up together. The box for the Legend Edition shows a huge lineup of the Legend War from the beginning of Gokaiger.

Legend Set.PNG

The figure style of the Ranger Keys allow them to be displayed with any other Keys and allow fans to recreate many of the team ups and battles from the Super Sentai universe.

Legend War

4) Consistent

Bandai Japan has not been known to have long lasting or amazing line of figures for Sentai Rangers. Bandai America has also never been known to keep a line for a while and they have changed the scale of their figures all of the time in the Power Rangers line. But the Ranger Keys all follow the same size and overall basic template. Only difference n each one is the Ranger it is representing, the Key piece, and the stickers.

This is another thing that allows the Ranger Keys to look great on the shelf display with every team having matching sized “figures” for each member of the team.

5) Functionality with Other Toys

Ranger Keys may be great display features or figures for a collection but what they are at the core are toys. As with all the other gimmicks released in the world of Toku Ranger Keys have lots of functionality with other toys. Of course the 2 Mobirates use them the way they are used in the show to transform into the Gokaigers or Gokai Change into any of the members from Super Sentai’s past. Other changers like the Gokai Cellular use the Keys more for an appearance rather then actual functionality, but they give the toy a complete look.

Gokaigers’ weapons also use the Keys in great ways. Each weapon having the Final Attack have to be unlocked by a Ranger Key is a great play feature. Another amazing toy that the Ranger Keys can work in is the Super Sentai Robo. This toy is a Super Sentai Mecha cockpit that a team of Ranger Keys can sit in, which is a really cool display and play feature.

Overall Ranger Keys are a gold mind of fun that Bandai Japan and Bandai America have gave us over the years. But I want to look into Ranger Keys on a more technical level. To see that be sure to check out the new all Ranger Key related series Ranger Keys: From Suit, to Show, to Toy. This series will cover the way Ranger Keys took a Ranger design, turned it into a Key for the show, and then went and turned that show Key to a toy version. Find this series on Toku Topics, starting on Friday May 4th 2018!
