SODO Sundays – March 24, 2019

Hello, tokusatsu community! It’s Joshua Perry here to talk about SODO figures on my fortnightly series, SODO Sundays. Today, Build takes over Zi-O as we also have some Ryusoulger and Kamen Rider Den-O news to cover.

Kamen Rider Zi-O

The SODO ad from a while ago had already revealed we would be getting a figure of the new Cross-Z form Cross-Z Evol but now it’s been fully revealed. This figure will also come with two accessories: the Pandora Box with the coloured panels on it as well as a new stand extender piece.

Cross-Z Evol is the final entry in Zi-O’s Set 8. But that’s not it for Build…

The villain of the Cross-Z V-Cinema, Kamen Rider Killbus, has been revealed as the first figure for Zi-O Set 9. His figure will also include this stand extender piece as well as a Drill Crusher and Kaizoku Hassha.

Kamen Rider Den-O

Kamen Rider Den-O was revealed a while ago as the next entry in the SODO Chronicle series. Here we have the details. The set will come with a Plat Form base body and four armor sets for the Sword, Rod, Ax, and Gun base forms of Den-O.

Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger

Pictures of the new Ryusoulger YUDO figures have been revealed. This set, releasing in May is confirmed to include the main 5 team as well as pieces to plug into the arms for the different soul abilities. Ryusoul Red’s Power Soul is shown off in the pictures.

SODO Sundays – February 24th, 2019

Hello, tokusatsu community! It’s Joshua Perry here to talk about SODO figures on my fortnightly series, SODO Sundays. Today, the rest of Set 7 and some teases for what’s to come.

Kamen Rider Zi-O

The final figures of Set 7 have been revealed. First up is Oma Zi-O! Teased back around Christmas this figure will finally be releasing in this set. His stand confirms his name as Kamen Rider Oma Zi-O, which is the first time he’s been referred to as an official Kamen Rider.

The other final figure of the Set is Woz’s Futuring Kikai armor. The final future Rider armor Woz has used in the show will also include both versions of Zi-O II’s sword. An extra Woz body from Set 6 will be included in Set 7 for those who don’t own one yet.

A new SODO ad has teased 2 figures not shown before. First was the Zi-O Decade Armor in its Build RabbitTank Sparkling mode. Confirming that we would be getting these armors in the line. Also Cross-Z Evol from the upcoming Cross-Z V-Cinema was also shown. With SODO Set 8 being another featuring Build set this makes a lot of sense to be included in the next set.

This ad also revealed the prototypes for some Another Riders from Zi-O! Another Build, Ex-Aid, Faiz, and Gaim were shown off in the ad. No information on how many they are doing or the way they are to be released yet but stay tuned.

It’s that time of the year again, the first press conference for Kamen Rider Zi-O just took place in Japan a few hours ago and with it brought us plenty of news with the cast as well as a trailer giving us a first look at the new Rider series.

First up was the cast. Zi-O showed up on stage and did his pose with his bike the Time Machine before revealing the cast of the show.

After the cast reveal was the trailer, kicking off with a showcase of the 19 previous Heisei Series from Kuuga to Build. All of their Ridewatches are shown before cutting to reveal the newest Rider, Zi-O.

The main character Sougo Tokiwa is then introduced as he finds a blank Ridewatch on his bike seat.

Then, the Rider from the future, Kamen Rider Geiz / Geiz Myoukouin, is shown:

Showing off Tsukoyomi, we also get a look at the inside of the Time Machine.

Kamen Rider Build Episode 39 Review

As we begin to race towards the conclusion of Kamen Rider Build, the tension continues to mount. After the reveal in episode 38 that Utsumi is willing to side with Evolt to become Kamen Rider Mad Rogue, the fight continues and we see where the “Mad” in his new title comes from. Utsumi fights and acts like a rabid dog without a leash, and claims to do it so that he can explore his own scientific brilliance. To accentuate the danger here, and add to the tension, we see a great deal of what Utsumi can do as a front-line combatant, including a first-person view from the perspective of Gentoku as a devastating hit lands.

Our heroes are ultimately defeated, and forced to retreat.

This episode, overall, is heavy on themes of friendship, trust, and what people can and will do to one another. This is shown in a few ways, the largest of which being a declaration that Banjou must be defeated alongside Evolt to keep the world safe. The words come from Kiryuu Sento, but are truly spoken by Katsuragi Takumi, with the cold, calculating logic of a man who has long since closed himself off to others. Katsuragi is arrogant and self-aggrandizing after completing the Genius Bottle, and all of these little moments build up to Kazumin tracking Banjou far away from the Build Cave, with a surprise attack.

It’s only after the fight ends in a draw that we learn Kazumin is trying to help Banjou get stronger so they can all survive.

On the other side of the coin, we see a more introspective look at Utsumi, staring out at the river over the bridge where he was shot by Gentoku early in the series. He regrets that he has had to come this far, but acknowledges, to himself and the world, that he believes his actions since that incident are justified. He screams this declaration, “I’m not wrong,” to the sky for all to hear. It’s an interesting look at a quiet character who, up to this point, has largely been a background player. Utsumi has come into his own since the Nanba arc began, much more so than he did as a member of Faust early on.

There is a bonding moment between Kazumin and Banjou, following their training session, where Banjou turns a solemn vow into a joke, but the two don’t have much time to enjoy it before Utsumi leads a squad against the remaining government of Touto. After hearing of this, Gentoku comes to terms with his part in the conflict, and insists on joining the fight. This is made harder to watch as Gentoku can hardly stand, falling even as he declares to Katsuragi to trust him one more time.

When Build finally enters the fight, he and Utsumi debate the merits of what Evolt has to offer. It is a debate, at its heart, about ethics in science. Neither man has a good record here, but Katsuragi speaks of intent and contribution to mankind. Utsumi, rightly, puts the technology of the Rider System at the heart of the conflict.

He illustrates this point in his speech well, and shows a clear difference between them. Katsuragi Takumi’s lack of experience in battle is made clear as Utsumi attacks and he can hardly fight back. When their talk concludes, he tries to use the Genius Bottle, only to find it unresponsive.

The intense pressure of the situation, as well as a hard hit to the head, lead to an introspective view of the split personalities that make up the man who is Build, and Kiryuu Sento is reborn, with both men’s memories intact. Only with Sento restored is the Genius Bottle able to work.

The episode ends with the first transformation of Sento into Build’s final form, Genius, a white suit made up largely of bottles and tubes.

What did you guys think of this week’s Build? How do you feel about Build’s final form? Leave a comment and let’s discuss!

New Photos Of Kamen Rider Build Genius Form And Kamen Rider Great Cross-Z

As Kamen Rider Build slowly reaches it’s end, let’s have a closer look at Build and Cross-Z’s final form.

In these Brand new magazine scans, we see our first clear look of Kamen Rider Build’s Genius Form.

This form will be accessed when the Genius Fullbottle is inserted into the Build Driver.

The Genius form will be able to preform 3 attacks; Genius Attack, Genius Break and Genius Finish.

Next we see 4 brand new black and gold Fullbottles (Bat, Fukurou (Owl), Kuwagata (Stag Beetle), Spanner). There is also a new panel to display them on, but no best matches have been confirmed.

And finally, we have the Great Cross-Z Dragon and Great Dragon Evol Bottle. These will be used by Kamen Rider Cross-Z to transform into Kamen Rider Great Cross-Z.

The Great Cross-Z Dragon is used in a similar way to the regular Cross-Z Dragon, the bottle is inserted into the Dragon which is then inserted into the Build Driver.

Similar to other Premium Bandai toys, the Cross-Z Dragon will also have say some of Ryuuga’s quotes when the button on the front is pressed. The Great Cross-Z Dragon will be released in October and will cost 3,024 yen.

You can expect to see all of these new forms in the coming episodes.

SODO Sundays – May 13th, 2018

Hello, tokusatsu community! In a break from the usual schedule, it’s Joshua Perry here to talk about SODO figures on my fortnightly series, SODO Sundays. This time we have a bit of news from the Kamen Rider Build.

Kamen Rider Build

Last year, when the Ex-Aid SODO line was doing very well, a special set of SODO figures called Dai-SODO was released that featured new versions of Kamen Rider Ex-Aid, Brave, and Snipe including more paint and extra articulation. It seems Dai-SODO is returning again this year with Kamen Rider Build.

Build’s Dai-SODO set will release this summer featuring new accessories and paint applications from the original releases. The figures included are Build in his RabbitTank form and Cross-Z in his default Dragon form. Both figures include a now painted Build Driver Strap and have their signature weapons that look more show accurate then before.

Both Riders also come with a set of hand accessories that allow for the recreation of their signature transformation poses.

The biggest new inclusion to this set is the Snap Ride Builder piece that can recreate the transformation sequence by attaching the Rider halves to it like a model kit as seen in the show.

This special set will release exclusively at Japanese Aeon stores in June before moving to Premium Bandai at a later date.

That’s it for this edition of SODO Sundays! The next edition will release on May 20th on both Toku Toy Store News and YouTube channel.
