A short synopsis of the series has also been released which goes as follows:

Aliens have been emigrating to Earth secretly, but only a handful knows about this truth. Living in such a society, the main character Hiroyuki Kudo begins working at a private security organisation E.G.I.S. (Enterprise of Guard and Investigation Services). The organisation takes care of cases related with aliens, and Hiroyuki works day and night to protect peace.

However, there lies a huge secret in him, which he himself is not aware of. He carries Ultraman Taiga’s “particle of light”. The new story begins as Taiga’s powers revive from Hiroyuki’s body!
Ultraman Taiga will premiere on July 6, 2019. Ultraman Tregear has been confirmed to be the main villain of the series, and take note, Ultraman Taiga is the first Ultra hero debuting in the Reiwa era.

Further images of Hasbro’s upcoming Power Rangers toy releases

With Power Rangers Beast Morphers almost upon us, Hasbro have released further images of the new Zords and Megazord from the show, as well as a completely original toy in the Playskool line!

Following on from last week’s initial Beast Morphers reveals, we now have more details about what the new zords and Megazord will look like. As you probably appreciate by now, Power Rangers Beast Morphers marks Hasbro’s first run at making toys for the franchise and boy are they coming out swinging! In a surprise move ahead of New York Toy Fair, Hasbro have been revealing their first Power Rangers lines in dribs and drabs; last week we saw the roleplay weapons to action figures and now they have shown off the new Zords, scheduled for release this Autumn. Hasbro has already stepped up to the plate, revealing two separate Zord styles where the majority can transform twice: between animal and vehicle mode. The Red Racer has the distinction of being able to transform three time, as it can also transform into a robot on its own.

Without further ado, lets start by having a look at the Red Ranger’s Zord, the Beast Racer, in its three separate modes: vehicle, animal and robot. The Beast Racer Zord will also make up the basis for the Megazord when in robot mode.

Next up are the dual changing zords which can change between vehicle and animal modes. These include the Beast Wheeler Zord for the Blue Ranger, Beast Chopper Zord for the Yellow Ranger, as well as two mystery/not so mystery Zords (Gold and Silver *cough*), one of which is known as the Beast Jet Zord.

The Beast Wrecker is another mysterious Zord.

When the bad guys go supersize, the Power Rangers need a way to keep up so they have the ability to bring their Zords together to create the Beast-X Megazord, made up of the Beast Racer, Beast Wheeler and Beast Chopper Zords. When they add in the Beast Jet and Beast Wrecker Zords, the Power Rangers create the powerful Beast-X Ultrazord.

For fans excited to see how the Playskool toy line will follow the Imaginext line for younger children, Hasbro also released some images of their newest addition to the collection: the legendary Red Dragon Thunderzord from Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers. This behemoth of a Zord stands at approximately 14 inches tall and possesses lights, sounds and moving arms and wings, all of which are triggered by pressing down on the Thunderzord’s tail. If you place the exclusive Dragon Shield Red Ranger onto the Zord’s back, he reveals then unleashes hidden projectiles to defeat the bad guys. The Red Dragon Thunderzord is due for release around the same time as the Power Rangers Beast Morphers Zords, towards Autumn 2019.

Complete details from the Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger Press Conference

While British residents were fast asleep last night, Toei Company held a press conference to reveal the cast for Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger!

ryusoulger-cast-1.jpg

The 43rd entry in the long running Super Sentai series will be Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger, also the fourth team to use a dinosaur theme but with knight based motif added to the mix. As we previously reported, the series is being written by Yamaoka Junpei, who is a new writer for the tokusatsu universe, and is directed by Kamihoriuchi Kazuya, who previously directed Kamen Rider Build the Movie: Be the One. This will be Kazuya’s first time as chief director on a Super Sentai series as well as on a series in general. Serving as chief producer will be Maruyama Shinya, who is a noted producer for various J-Drama shows and served as an assistant producer for shows including: B-Robo Kabutak, Moero!! Robocon, and Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon.

DysaJozV4AAY_x3 (1)

The main story focuses on an ancient alien race called the Druidon, who left the planet after the meteor that destroyed the dinosaurs came to Earth. The Ryusoul tribe left their powers in the care of a group of chosen warriors, giving them the ability to defend the world when the Druidon race returned to Earth to conquer, or destroy, the planet. The catchphrase for the series will be a Portuguese phrase “que bom” roughly translating as “something that’s really great”.

The cast for Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger will include:

Ichinose Hayate as Kou, RyusoulRed: A genius who is completely focused on training.

cast01.jpg

Tsuna Keito as Melt, RyusoulBlue: A warrior with a hunger for knowledge.

This Week in Tokusatsu – November 30th, 2018

Greetings, loyal readers! Today marks the beginning of a new weekly series, This Week in Tokusatsu, here at Toku Toy Store! Each week, we will be spotlighting events from Tokusatsu shows and movies, summed up in a more broad way than our older episode reviews. Stay tuned here each week for news, previews, and reviews!

For this first edition, we have a lot of ground to cover with more to come. Lupinranger vs Patoranger has entered its final arc, and though the pacing is inconsistent, the show is going strong! Meanwhile, Kamen Rider Zi-O begins to pick up steam with the Gaim arc coming to a close, and new trailers have debuted for Ultraman and Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Let’s dive in, shall we?

Lupinranger vs Patoranger Episode 41

Our heroes face off against the Gangler general Destra this week, and find themselves trapped in the Gangler world, which is something akin to Britain or France, draped in purple fog and eternal darkness. This is where we start to see the politics within the Gangler organization take shape in a meaningful way, as well as learning the true power that comes with a Status Double Gold designation, for someone like Destra. The episode treats us to some really well-done action pieces, even if the isekai plot thread is resolved a bit too quickly.

Once again, we’re starting to see Tsukasa put the pieces together that maybe the Jurer trio are more than they appear to be, but again the show holds off on the reveal. With just eight or nine episodes left before the end of this series, the reveal is coming up fast, and the final arc appears to be where the teams will have to truly come together. The preview for the next episode shows Tokyo in ruins, and Ganglers rampaging, as the heroes look on. The stakes are high and we won’t have to wait long for the payoff.

Kamen Rider Zi-O Episode 12

This week, Zi-O’s Gaim arc concludes, and we get to see a bit more of the spectacle that comes from having two Sougos, separated by a time interval of three days. It’s mostly played up for laughs in the beginning, but does end up becoming a crucial part of the endgame plot. Along the way, we get new character insights into most of the main cast, but the main bulk of the character growth comes in the form of Geiz’s willingness to trust Sougo with another Ridewatch, and the power of Gaim. It’s a powerful moment, driven by the lecture Geiz gets from returning actor Yutaka Kobayashi (Kamen Rider Baron/Kumon Kaito).

Next up, we will be treated to what appears to be a thoroughly packed arc, including appearances by Ghost, Decade, and Agito, with Decade appearing as a primary villain, if the trailer is meant to be taken at face value. A glimpse of Another Ghost reveals that the next Another Rider is more horror-themed, more demonic in appearance than his contemporary counterpart, and we also see that Sougo’s meeting with Takeru leads to him becoming a ghost as well. Does this mean one of the Sougos will die? Only time will tell.

Ultraman Anime Trailer

Earlier this week, Netflix debuted the first trailer for the long-awaited anime adaptation of the Kodansha manga Ultraman, which serves as a sequel to the original series. The art style has been a bit alarming for some, with much of the 2d/3d CG drawing parallels to the much-maligned Berserk continuation from 2016. The story follows a new Ultraman, the son of the original, and appears to be set in the modern era, rather than the 1960s setting of the original series. Another large detail is that this series will ignore all Ultraman continuity after Ultraman season one.

Look for Ultraman to debut in April 2019 on Netflix.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters International Trailer

The second international trailer for Godzilla: King of the Monsters debuted this week, and gave us our best look yet at the upcoming Kaiju. Rodan, Mothra, and even (through fog) King Ghidorah himself were on display in the new trailer, while the story of the human characters was expanded on a bit further. As hype for this film continues to build, Legendary Pictures’ Monsterverse comes together, with this third film slated to open the floodgates to Western Kaiju fans and casual viewers alike. Who knows what will come next? Maybe a cameo from MechaGodzilla? A crossover with Pacific Rim? Only time will tell, but expectations are high and excitement continues to mount as we approach the 31 May 2019 release of this film.

Power Rangers Beast Morphers New Cast Members Announced

Power Rangers Beast Morphers is still in production, set for a release date in February 2019, but is still light on casting announcements. Hasbro seemingly hopes to change that today with the reveal of several new characters, cast recently in the show. So far, not much information is available, only character names and actors, but there is some speculation to be had from some of them. See below for more:

The first new character will be Nate, played by actor Abraham Rodriguez. Nothing else is known at this time.

Abraham-Rodriguez-Headshot-e1537319075410

Next we have Ben, played by actor Cosme Flores. Again, no other information was made available.

Cosme-Flores-Headshot

The first new female character after the Yellow Ranger, Betty, will be played by actress Christina Ho.

Kristina-Ho-Headshot

And now we can get into speculation about new characters for the next two. First up is Blaze, played by actor Colby Strong and believed to be a villain corrupted by the Evox organization, alongside our next female character, Roxy, played by Liana Ramirez.

It seems diversity is a key point this season, with many actors of varying ethnicity getting involved in the production as major and minor characters. The story is being adapted from Go-Busters and seems to be sticking close to many of the themes of that series, so far. Look for more information to be revealed in the coming months leading up to the premiere. Power Rangers Beast Morphers premieres in February 2019 on Nickelodeon.

What do you think of this reveal? Are you excited? Leave your thoughts and let’s discuss!

Power Rangers 25th Anniversary Special Revealed

Power Rangers as a franchise is approaching its 25th anniversary this year, with a special episode airing on August 28th to commemorate the anniversary of the original air date of Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers. The anniversary episode is airing in a special time slot, 8:00PM on Tuesday August 28th in the US. Power Rangers actors, often active on social media, have been a wealth of information for details about this episode, including the team lineup that will be pairing with the current Super Ninja Steel team. Seen below, behind-the-scenes pictures and videos posted to the Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook accounts of several of the actors involved have confirmed the team lineup for the reunion is as follows:

  • Jason David Frank as Tommy Oliver, Dino Thunder Black
  • Steve Cardenas as Rocky DeSantos, Mighty Morphin’ Red II
  • Catherine Sutherland as Katherine Hillard, Turbo Pink
  • Selwyn Ward as TJ Johnson, In Space Blue
  • Jason Faunt as Wes Collins, Time Force Red
  • Jeff Parazzo as Trent Mercer, Dino Thunder White
  • Li Ming Hu as Gemma, RPM Silver
  • Steven Skylar as Antonio Garcia, Samurai Gold
  • Ciara Hanna as Gia Moran, Megaforce/Super Megaforce Yellow
  • Yoshi Sudarso as Koda, Dino Charge Blue

This lineup is confirmed via multiple official trailers, and a newly-posted morphing video shot behind the scenes on set and posted to the official Instagram page of veteran actor Jason David Frank.

Tomorrow…. @nickelodeon

A post shared by Jason David Frank (@jdfffn) on

Coincidentally or not, you can see from this list that a large number of the returning actors are still highly active in the Power Rangers community and in interacting with fans at conventions and on social media. JDF, Ciara Hanna, and Yoshi Sudarso, in particular remain champions of the Power Rangers brand, devoted fans as well as vocal spokespeople. JDF and Ciara Hanna are also confirmed to be returning to their Power Rangers characters in a web film, Power Rangers Legacy Wars: Street Fighter Showdown, premiering later this fall.

This team, as listed above, will be crossing into the universe and timeline of Super Ninja Steel to help them take on an army of enemies, made up of cloned Rangers, according to the trailers. This is eventful in another way, as well, as this will be the first time brothers Yoshi and Peter Sudarso, both blue Rangers for different teams, have appeared on screen together to battle evil. This special does raise several questions within the Power Rangers continuity, but with the existence of multiverse travel confirmed in the comics by Shattered Grid, it’s possible some of those questions may even be answered within the episode itself. Dino Charge and RPM each exist in their own realities, with RPM being a fusion of Terminator and Mad Max, while Dino Charge’s second season ended on the Rangers undoing the extinction of the dinosaurs, thus changing anything that would come after.

With multiple universes worth of Rangers coming together, we are sure to be in for a good time when this episode premieres. Look for the 25th anniversary special of Power Rangers to air in a special time slot, 8pm EDT / 1am BST on Tuesday August 28th.

Are you excited for this episode and what it could mean for the franchise as a whole? Leave your thoughts below and let’s discuss!

Power Rangers Lightning Collection Announced

During a panel at Power Morphicon today, the world was finally given a sneak peek at what Hasbro intends to do with the Power Rangers brand. This news brought hope to a great many fans, myself included, in the form of the Lightning Collection, a new anthology series of figures set to drop its first wave in spring 2019. Hasbro was very open with information about these new figures, and in a preview video, showed the production of a prototype Mighty Morphin’ White ranger figure. The features are as follows:

  • 27 points of articulation
  • True-to-life colours and proportions
  • Photo-realistic swappable actor faces
  • Weapons and accessories included
  • Optional Special Effects included

Prototype on display in the main Power Morphicon hall (Photo credit: KyoryuZeo on Twitter)

The figures were confirmed to retail for a price point of $19.99 in the US and will be released as an Anthology series, rather than dividing sets by individual team. Hasbro representatives were adamant that all eras of Rangers will be included, rolled out over time similar to the Marvel Legendary Collection series, also made by Hasbro. In addition, during a Q&A at the end of the panel, the question of Monster figures in this series was brought up, and an implicit yes was given but nothing has been confirmed there just yet.

Stay tuned for more details as they become available, including pre-order information.

Are you excited to see the Lightning Collection in person? Which ranger are you most looking forward to seeing realised this way? Leave a comment and let’s discuss!

Personal note: Huge thanks and kudos to @TokuChris for streaming the panel. We love you!
